Krewe De Paws, Slidell, Louisiana

With a theme of “Be Mine Canine Valentine,” Slidell’s first and only canine carnival krewe, Krewe De Paws, will be following a one-mile parade route in Olde Towne. This historic part of Slidell was devastated by over four feet of water during Hurricane Katrina.
When: Sunday, February 14, 2010, at 9:00 a.m.
Where: The parade will begin and end on First Street at Erlanger in Slidell, Louisiana.
Cost: Dog owners can become charter members now for $100, which will include registration for one dog and dog owner and “lots of goodies.” A krewe membership for one dog and human costs $30. Registration will be available the day of the event for $50.
For a Paws Cause: The parade will benefit local animal-loving non-profit organizations.

Mardi Growl, Knoxville, TN

Grab your favorite dog costume (and your dog) and head to the 3rd annual dog parade during Knoxville's Mardi Growl. The fun starts at 11 with the costume parade then continues from noon to 2pm in Market Square with dog contests ranging from best costume to best naked dog, $10 microchips and rabies vaccinations, plenty of pet-related vendors, and animal rescue groups.
Cost: Day of the parade registration is $15; there's a discount for preregistration.
When: Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, 11 am - 2 pm (rain or shine)
Where: The parade begins at the downtown PetSafe Dog Park (Summit Hill Drive and Central Avenue) and ends at Market Square in Knoxville.

Mardi Paws Celebration, Mandeville, LA

With a theme of "Mardi Paws Travels Around the World," the 14th annual Mardi Paws Celebrations is getting ready to party. This event in Mandeville, Louisiana is noted as the only krewe that parades after Fat Tuesday. The walking parade features two- and four-legged participants in costume and is a family-friendly event.
The parade processes on Lakeshore Drive; during the parade watch for purple dog droppings, special beads, stuffed animals, cups and doubloons to be thrown as well as gold dog droppings tossed by the royals. A post-parade party will include food, music, and an agility course.
When: The parade is scheduled for Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 2:00pm. Registration begins at 12:30pm. The rain date is Sunday, February 28, 2010.
Where: Mandeville Lakefront, Mandeville, Louisiana

Barkus Parade, New Orleans, LA

There will be no need to ask "Who Dat" at the annual Barkus Parade in New Orleans; this year's Grand Marshal is well-known animal lover Wendy Diamond and her dog, Lucky. Diamond, publisher of
Animal Fair magazine and celebrity dog expert, will be escorting her Maltese rescue dog Lucky, one of the numerous canines and their companions that will make up this 15-block parade of the Krewe of Barkus, a licensed Mardi Gras Krewe.
When: Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, 1 p.m. (The parade has been moved up an hour due to the SuperBowl!)
Where: The parade begins at Orleans and North Rampart in New Orleans.
Cost: There is no charge to watch the parade. The cost to register your dog for the parade is $50 (with discounts for preregistering).

PetSmart Weiner Dog Derby, St. Louis

Following the Beggin' Pet Parade, the 17th annual PETsMART Wiener Dog Derby invites dachshunds and all canine lovers to enjoy this annual event at Soulard Market Park.
Dachshunds complete three divisions based on age:
- Cocktail Wienies
- Ballpark Franks
- Hot Dogs
After the finals, the winners will receive trophies in a ceremony taking place, appropriately enough, in the Wiener's Circle.
When: Feb. 7, 2010. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. at the park; the first races start at 2:00 p.m.
Where: Soulard Market Park
Cost: $10 to register your Dachshund. Admission to the races to watch is free.

Beggin' Pet Parade, St. Louis, MO

It's almost time for the 17th Annual Beggin' Strips Pet Parade and "tail"gating party in St. Louis!
Close to 8,000 participants take part in this event which has been called the biggest pet parade in the US and one of the largest pet parades in the world.
The parade marches--on two and four legs--through the streets of Soulard.
To Participate: Dogs are subject to the approval of Mardi Gras, Inc. and the St. Louis Department of Animal Control based on appropriateness, temperament and health.There's a $10 minimum donation per pet; the proceeds go to the Open Door Sanctuary, a local no-kill shelter with locations in and around St. Louis.
When: Pet registration starts at 10 a.m. The parade begins at 1 p.m.
Where: The parade begins at 1 p.m. at Allen and Menard in Soulard.
Cost: The registration fee is $10.
For a Paws Cause: All of the event's proceeds benefit the Open Door Animal Sanctuary, a local no-kill shelter for dogs and cats.

Krewe of Barkus Parade, Lake Charles, LA

It's time for Mardi Gras-costumed dogs to compete for the title of “Mystical Dog” in the annual Krewe of Barkus parade in Lake Charles, Louisiana. This popular part of the city's Mardi Gras fun draws duded up doggies and dog lovers...and this parade doesn't toss mere beads but dog biscuits!
