A bevy of British celebrities have recently become potential Picassos for a canine cause, creating fashionable dog collars to benefit an organization which offers our four-legged friends a new ‘leash’ on life.
On behalf of The Kennel Club Charitable Trust– a London-based dog charity which supports research into dog diseases, pet welfare organizations and the promotion of therapy dogs– 11 luminaries have added artistic embellishments to leather collars donated by Holly and Lil, a retailer of high end dog collars and leashes.
Among the famous faces to decorate the doggie accessories:
Anthony Head: Known for his roles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the current SyFy series Merlin, Head is an A-list animal lover who– along with his partner, dog trainer/author Sarah Fisher– operates Tilley Farm, a rehabilitation center for both farm and companion animals. Speaking about the current dog collar auction, the actor stated: “As a dog lover it is great to be given the opportunity to do something fun that also helps dogs. I think we have all tried to express our personalities through the design. The Kennel Club Charitable Trust does great work in helping breed rescue organisations rehome unwanted dogs and providing funds to find cures for dog diseases, so I really hope that the collars raise a lot of money for the cause.” (Anthony Head’s dog collar contribution can be seen in the photo to the right.)
Emily Head: Currently appearing in the E4 Britcom The Inbetweeners, the actress is the daughter of Anthony Head and Sarah Fisher.
David Spinx: Former star of Eastenders.
Kate Silverton: BBC newscaster
Anna Webb: Dog expert and co-host of Barking at the Moon, which can be heard on BBC London 94.9.
JoAnne Good: Actress, radio personality and co-host of Barking at the Moon.
The dog collars, which will be presented at dfs Crufts, are up for auction on eBay through March 17, 2011.
