A pop culture icon who has taken on the real life role of animal advocate, former M*A*S*H star Loretta Swit stepped on stage at Guastivino’s Restaurant on June 13th as the evening’s host, charming attendees with a story that depicts a dog devotee’s true vision of heaven before shining a spotlight on the works of others who are passionate about pets during the awards presentation.

In honor of its corporate contributions to foster the health and well-being of pets, IAMS– which donated 5 million meals to shelters and rescues in need and helped 1.1 million cats and dogs find forever families during their 2011 “Home 4 the Holidays” campaign– was the recipient of the “Bideawee Corporate Award.”

Accepting the Bideawee Volunteer Honoree award for his more than 15 years of service on the Bideawee Board and his lifelong commitment to all that Bideawee stands for was board emeritus Joseph Garrison and his barking buddy, Austin.
Among the line up of more than 250 luminaries who partied for the sake of pooches and our purring pals were Beth Ostrosky Stern, music legend Roberta Flack, Doggie Moms star Karen Biehl and her tuxedo-clad Chihuahua Eli, celebrity magician Matt Wayne, celebrity dog trainer Andrea Arden, former Bachelor and founder of Royal Treatment Italian Pet Spa Prince Lorenzo Borghese and poker champ Beth Shak.
Proceeds from the high-profile presentation will support Bideawee’s continued efforts through animal welfare programs, educational community outreach and pet adoption services offered in facilities located in Manhattan, Westhampton and Wantagh on Long Island.
