76*365: Choosing Image Size

Share with fellow dog lovers!

Today’s digital cameras offer larger and larger photo sizes…but which should you select?

The 365 Photo Project tip today is a simple one: select a size large enough so that you can create a print from the photo later if you choose.

In general, the bigger the better. While you might not want to select the very largest image size if you primarily use your photos on Facebook or other online locations, if you ever want to print a photo, you need a large image. You can always make an image smaller for online use but you can’t increase the size of a photo for printing purposes!

This simple photo I took this afternoon of Tiki in front of our pumphouse with some of the first flowers of the season is shot at about 3200 x 2100 pixels. I’ve resized the photo for using on DogTipper so I don’t have to upload a jumbo photo. (I use Photoshop but free online editors like Pixlr.com will resize photos, too.) Now, if I should ever want to print out this photo, all I have to do is go back to the original!
