Happy 10th Gotcha Day, Irie!!

Share with fellow dog lovers!

This weekend we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of Irie’s adoption!!

On Feb. 2, 2008, we adopted Irie from the Bulverde Humane Society, near San Antonio. We’d seen a Petfinder listing for a young blue heeler–but when we reached the shelter, we soon saw that the heeler was far too energetic to be a companion to our 14-year-old terrier mix, Yoda. But, nearby, a six-month-old hound mix caught our eye.

She was shy and a little underweight, as you can tell a little from this photo in the shelter parking lot, and had a red rash on her that we soon found out was demodectic mange–but she was just perfect for us. After a few weekly dips at the vet’s office, she was on her way to a full, thick coat of fur.

Irie really bloomed when we adopted Tiki, becoming more confident–and today she loves nothing more than to top in the car and go exploring. When she sees her harness come out (or hears the word “Sonic”), she’s ready to go!

Irie’s birthday wish is that everyone will give homeless dogs and cats in shelters everywhere a chance to blossom and joy life as a fun family member!!
