This year has been a big one for Barli. He started the year at the shelter then on March 13 came home with us as a five-month-old puppy. Since then, he’s gained 10 pounds, made numerous overnight trips, fell in love with the beach–and joined a dog, cat, and human family that adores him. We wanted to turn this year’s gift guide over to Barli for his choices of some of his very favorite pet products for 2018.
Tired of traveling with your dog’s supplies, food and water getting spread here and yonder in your car and luggage? We’ve found an answer: The Pet Pail. This super cute organizational system, which resembles a stylish lunch box (available in an array of colors) has containers and sections for many of your on the road essentials. In it you’ll find:
- a built-in waste bag dispenser
- removable food and water storage containers for wet or dry food
- pail handle that doubles as a collar
- a spoon/fork to scoop out messy dog food
- shoulder strap that doubles as a leash
- two removable, dishwasher safe food and water bowls
- spill-proof bowl lids to seal bowls
- two built-in, extra deep removable bowls for big eaters
- removable lid so the bottom half of the pail can be used as a home feeder
Messy Mutts Silicone Treat Mold
I love baking treats for Barli and Tiki (and making frozen treats for them during warm weather), and this silicone mold from Messy Mutts is a real winner. You can use it in the oven (up to 446°F), freezer or even microwave–and it’s dishwasher safe, too. Made of FDA approved silicone plus it’s BPA free and PVC free–so all you have to worry about is which treat recipe to make!
Messy Cats Studio Plus Collection, 2 in 1 Cuddler/Cat House
Info: https://amzn.to/2DXzT9c or messymutts.ca
Also from Messy Mutts, this collapsible bed is from the Messy Cats line–but is also great for small dogs. Barli was small enough when we first adopted him to lie on the bed when it was collapsed but now it’s a favorite napping spot for Barli’s best cat buddy, Jetty. The collapsible house is a favorite in our home, and a great gift for cats who are looking for a little privacy from an active puppy for a few hours!
CHEW Premium Dog Treats
Barli is a chewer and loves nothing better than to find a stick and start chewing–but we all know sticks can splinter. We were excited to learn about CHEW Premium Dog Treats, made from the root of the Heath tree, one of the densest trees in the world and resistant to splintering.
These all-natural, organic chews (made in the USA) are smooth and well finished, available in two sizes (medium and large). Barli loved the medium while Tiki was just right for the large size (although Barli decided that it, too, should be his!)
Innovet Hemp Dog Treats
Barli picks these treats for his big sister Tiki, to help with her arthritis discomfort. Made in the USA, these treats are a great way to give your dog CBD, especially dogs like Tiki who don’t like the taste of the oil. Tiki LOVES the treats, and they’re easy to travel with as well.
As you know, Barli is almost done with the first of his two classes he’s taking to hopefully eventually become certified as a nursing home therapy dog–and all that training means a lot of training treats! He loves, loves the taste of these all-natural training treats created from 100% U.S. sourced ingredients, handcrafted in Northern California.
Martha Stewart Coats on QVC
I have to say that I wasn’t sure how Barli would react to clothing, but I’m shocked to say he loves it. This Martha Stewart Fleece Cinch Neck Pullover Dog Jacket is his fave, and he gets excited when he sees me pull it out because he knows he’s headed outside for play! Barli wears a size Large in this fleece jacket (28-pound Barli wears a Medium in the stretchier Martha Stewart Cable Knit sweaters, to give you an idea of size.)
Stuffing Free Squeaking Plush Dog Toy, Big Squeak Gator by Petstages
When we first adopted Barli, he was a little frightened of squeaky toys. (Shelter dogs generally don’t have access to plush or squeaking toys because they do require supervision.) Well, he got over that FAST and now absolutely loves toys that squeak. This gator is his favorite; it has two squeakers in different tones–and somehow, someway the squeakers are made so they squeak even after they are punctured (which Barli typically does right off the bat). He is crazy about this very inexpensive toy as well as the Petstages Just For Fun No Stuffing Plush LiL Squeak for Small Dogs, a stuffing-free little monkey with similar squeakers.
Barli wants to remind you of the Pawliday Toy Drive–for every purchase in our PawZaar gift store, a toy will be donated to the Hill Country SPCA, the shelter where Barli lived for three months before we adopted him. You’ll find all the details on our toy drive post!
