Such is the case with Shaheed Khan, founder and owner of Oliver’s Pet Care, an online pet product emporium. DogTipper recently interviewed Khan to hear how adopting Oliver, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, led Khan to embark on a new business venture with a new business model: doing what you love.
Please describe Oliver’s Pet Care:
To provide only the best pet care products at great prices. Simply put, if we wouldn’t give it to Oliver, we wouldn’t sell it. Caring for our environment is a top priority for us; we are continuing to develop our eco-friendly dog product section to help our Earth. We are also committed to giving back to the community by donating 10% of all proceeds to the Humane Society and the ASPCA.

Can you tell us about your background and how you came to work with pets?
Let me start off by saying I was never a pet person. But in the summer of 2009, my wife and I decided we were finally ready to make an addition to the family of the four-legged variety. I was brought up in a family with no pets, so I was a bit nervous not knowing what to expect. Nonetheless, we welcomed Oliver, a bright-eyed, loving Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into our home. Since that time, Oliver has brought nothing but joy and happiness to our lives.
Oliver has shown me how wonderful the human-animal bond really is, and challenged me to really think about the quality of care we give our new-found best friend. With that in mind, we set out to create Oliver’s Pet Care, a site where people can buy the best pet care products for their best friend–at an affordable price.

What’s your typical workday like?
Research,…research,…research…I strive to find great products for our customers. My wife and I not only look for products but we also do everything else, design the website, inventory management, vendor relations, marketing, accounting,…we are a small business and are trying to grow a great following and customer base to expand into other pet products.
Can you tell us about your pets?
Oliver – He is our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – and we love him!

Be patient with our selection… As the weeks go by, more and more products are arriving to the warehouse. Our selection will be growing week to week.
What’s next for your business?
