A rescue dog who got the chance to step into the spotlight at The World Dog Awards has won the role of a lifetime as the canine companion to the TV special’s comic host.
Now bringing joy and laughter to his proud new pet parent George Lopez (who tickled the funny bones of his Fido-loving fans when he provided the voice of Papi in the popular Disney adventure Beverly Hills Chihuahua), Owen the Giant got his big break thanks to the Los Angeles-based, volunteer run rescue organization Wags and Walks. The non-profit offers a new lease on life to companion animals who are facing their fate in Southern California shelters.
Owen enjoyed his moment in the spotlight at The World Dog Awards alongside Rocky Kanaka, founder of Dog for Dog and host of the series Save Our Shelter. Airing Saturdays on The CW, the show shines a light on the need to help the estimated eight million dogs and cats who enter the U.S. shelter system each year.
