46*365: The Yawns Have It!

Share with fellow dog lovers!

Yawns are a calming signal that dogs use either to calm themselves or to calm others. (I just finished reading On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals, a great book on canine communication.) It shows that there’s some situation underway that your dog’s not completely comfortable with…and often that slight discomfort can come from the stare of the camera lens. (OK, in the above photo, the Mardi Gras hat may have also played a part in the yawn.)

So it’s not difficult to get a photo of your dog yawning. Often just the “stare” of that camera can result in a yawn…

Tiki’s a big yawner when the camera comes out. Irie often turns from the camera but she has been known to yawn, too…

(That’s more than an “I’m sleepy…I don’t want to get out of bed yet” yawn! That’s a “why is that camera pointed in my face?” yawn!)

Both Tiki and Irie know that camera = treats so any discomfort from their “pup”arazzi moment is soon replaced with good treats.

My Ruby-girl. She looks nothing like herself in this photo. I hope I can attach it.I have wanted to reply to these photo posts. Thank you for the chance to share. Oh, yes, that is green on her white :-) This was after last year's St. Patrick Day parade. We walk with our dog play group each year. That time she got the white tip of her tail and some of her other white colored green. I can see the image, it is squashed here, hope it looks normal for you.
