171*365: My New Toy!

Share with fellow dog lovers!

In preparation for two big photo events–BlogPaws this week and, probably next week, the arrival of our new Maytag washer and dryer for #MaytagMoms–I wanted to get a fisheye lens. There was only one problem: price.

Fisheye lenses are not cheap but we found an inexpensive alternative that’s going to work great for web usage: a digital video conversion lens:

Unlike a lens, this actually screws onto the lens, just like a filter. Best of all was the price: $12!

It will be very handy for photographing the big ballrooms at BlogPaws…and for trying to take in our tiny laundry room to write about our washer and dryer for DogTipper and our laundry room renovation for Paris and John’s Country Home (stay tuned!)

Here’s a sneak peek at what this lens can do. Here’s a shot I took of our catio this afternoon:

Without moving and without zooming, I added the wide angle filter and shot again:

You can see that it takes in a much wider angle but, at the same time, that you start to get some distortion of vertical lines (plus some vignetting in the corners). I’m going to be practicing with it…stay tuned for more photos!
