We hope our US readers are enjoying Independence Day weekend and everyone everywhere is having a great weekend with their dogs. We’ve got a quiet weekend planned with our dogs (Irie is frightened by fireworks) so we’ll be home happily watching movies on the couch with the dogs!

Our dogs get to enjoy a lot of perks because of their role in DogTipper…from testing treats to trying new dog foods…but the job also comes with some modeling obligations. They were OK posing with the patriotic bandanna but this week I found a Fourth of July headband at the local thrift shop and just couldn’t resist…

Irie was OK with posing for a few moments…

And Tiki posed…but gave me that “This is sooo embarrassing” look:

Thanks, Pintu; that one made us laugh, too! She seemed to be saying, “I’ll do this to make you happy…but I’m not crazy about this outfit!”

Happy 4th to you as well! Enjoy the precious downtime… seems like we dont get enough of that these days!

Thanks, Christopher! You are so right…there’s not a lot of downtime anymore, is there? It almost takes the electricity going off for things to really slow down here. (But it’s pretty toasty today so I’m just as happy to be busy but enjoying the AC!) Happy 4th! -Paris

Pintu, I meant to ask you if you could see any Doberman in Tiki? We had her DNA done and her strongest heritage is Doberman and Poodle (neither a purebred parent) with weaker Shetland Sheepdog and Bulldog! I don’t see Doberman in her but wanted to ask you…I know you are a Dobie expert!! Any hint in her eyes or maybe nose? -Paris

    Hello Paris,
wow “Dobie ecpert” !!! Its so nice to get such comments from dog experts like you :) , though I dont know how much I really know about our companion animals! Every day is a lesson….
As such, I dint see any Doberman, but after you have mentioned about her eyes and ears, ya, her eyes especially looks so much like Benji’s. Her nose too is like that of a Dobie.

But, more than her physical appearance, I feel her character/personality traits are more of a Dobie’s. have u seen her protecting money?
When ever I give few notes of money to Pintu, he doesn’t tear it nor he ignores it.He keeps it carefully with him (usually under his nose)!
I have seen Ruby, Benji & Simba too being more conscious about costly items. Thsoe that are actually irrelevant to a dog – like that of a Jewelery.
Pintu very well differentiate between money, small waste papers and important papers. He doesn’t do anything with our important papers (even if its small), protects money and loves to tear the waste paper into pieces! How much ever we tell him to stop, he wont. I dont know how he comes to a conclusion that they are of no use.

One more trait is, they love to show off(ofcourse many dogs of other breeds too like this), pose well to the camera, behave at their best when we have visitors at home and impress them in their own unique way!.
Probably thats why Tiki is a good poser!
Do let me know more about Tiki.

    Hi Pintu,

That is SO interesting! I have never noticed Tiki with money but I’ve got to experiment with that! Tiki also likes to pose for the camera (you probably can tell!) She loves meeting new people and new dogs but gets very, very excited when meeting new people and wants to lick their faces. She is very protective of me…not in a threatening way to anyone but she is always near me. When I take a shower, she always comes and lies at the door, no matter where she is in the house when I head in there. She likes to lie at my feet when I watch TV. She’s not a lap dog (Irie, who is about 15 pounds heavier, is convinced she is a lap dog and loves to sit in my lap.) Tiki is a picky eater. She is fearless (even when it’s things she should be frightened of) and I can’t think of anything that really bothers her although she seems claustrophobic. She had a terrible time when I tried to put her in a kennel right after we got her to transport her to the vet so now we have a seat belt for her (maybe that had something to do with her month at the shelter). She is a very fast learner; I hung sleigh bells from the front door knob and within a day she learned to ring them to signal she needs to go out. And she’s a great buddy with Irie as well as our cats; she’s very respectful when the cats are eating and just lies beside them and waits to see if they leave any bits for her!

You are so right…every day is a lesson!! Paris

Hello Paris, its so nice to know about Tiki. Many of her traits match each of my dog!….

Loves to meet new dogs & Very excited to meet new people n continuously lick their face. Waiting for friends to finish the food, so that he could eat the left over!- Benji.

Following mother everywhere – Ruby! weekends my brother comes home, so she is with him all the time.Even his small movement – she will go n hug him. Other days, she is with my mom always.:)
I have read in a website that Doberman are called as “Velcro” – sticking to us always!! :)

picky eater & fearlessness – Pintu exactly! He is just not scared about anything! He eats very few items! no veggies, no fruits….
which even lead him to take compulsory supplements later in his life.
When he was there, I dint know that Doberman were created By Mr.Doberman,a Tax collector to protect him & his money. So, when I read this later, it was amazing & thats why probably Pintu was very careful with money!

That is so funny about Pintu and the fruits and vegetables…that’s Tiki!! I never really realized that a dog could literally spit out food until I gave Tiki some lettuce (which Irie loves). I’ve also seen her spit out bananas, sweet potatoes, and strawberries!!
