In honor of Elvis Week (did you know Elvis Week is August 10-16 this year?), I thought it would be fun to come up with a dog treat in honor of the King. If there’s one dish that’s most associated with Elvis, it just might be his favorite fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.

To make this treat a little healthier for your hound dog, I have substituted the white bread Elvis loved for wheat bread in our list of ingredients:

Ingredients
2 slices wheat bread
1 ripe banana, mashed
2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons bacon grease

Elvis loved his sandwich grilled using bacon grease but you can substitute butter or another type of cooking oil (or grill it without oil).

The preparation is quick and easy. Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and the mashed bananas on the other slice of bread and assemble. On low heat, heat the oil (or butter) and grill the sandwich until it’s golden brown on both sides.

Let the sandwich cool the cut in small pieces with a knife or cookie cutters. (Don’t try to cut it while the sandwich is hot or the peanut butter will run out! I used cookie cutters for the photos but I’ll be honest: it’s tough to cut with cookie cutters so I’d just use a knife and slice into into small squares. The dogs won’t mind!)

Another nice recipe for my little hound dog (if I can keep my paws off them!). Thanks.

I have to confess that I sampled these treats firsthand when I cooked them….yum!
