Yesterday we drove through Smithville, Texas, located southeast of Austin. This small community (best known as the place where the Sandra Bullock movie Hope Floats was filmed) was once a bustling railroad center. Today it’s a quiet town surrounded by farms and ranches…but it’s also home to one of the newest dog parks in the area.

Bark Park, located on 1st Street adjacent to the Chamber of Commerce office and the Railroad Park, opened May 1, 2010. The park is divided into a large dog and small dog area, each with double gates for safety, a pet waste convenience station, and shaded seating areas. For more information, visit the City of Smithville site.
