Halloween 2017 is just around the corner, and to celebrate we’ve fetched news of a few of the most frightfully fun Fido-centric festivities taking place across the country that you and your dog can enjoy together! Do you know of a Halloween event for real party animals that’s not on the list? Let us know in the comments below!
Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade
When: October 29th at 2:30 p.m.
Where: Marina Vista Park at 5355 E. Eliot Street in Long Beach
Known as the world’s largest Halloween event for our four-legged friends, more than 400 Fidos dressed in spook-tacular style will promenade along the parade route, with the day’s ‘top dogs’ winning prizes for their apparel. Pet parents who step out with Spot in Halloween attire can also aspire to win a prize. The event’s real winners, however, will be the adorable adoptables at the pet adoption fair!
When: October 28 from 9 a.m. – noon
Where: Secret Lake Park in Casselberry
Enjoy a constitutional with your costume-clad canine companion and help a paws cause in the process, with all of the proceeds from the promenade in the park and a parade of Halloween puppy apparel benefitting Franklin’s Friends, and all volunteer non-profit which offers aid to local nonprofits and government agencies which work in areas of shelter/rescue, spay/neuter or educating the public on animal issues. This year participants are striving to raise $55,000!
Spooky Walk-N-Wag Dog Walk and Costume Parade
When: October 14 at 11:15 a.m.
Where: Six Flags over Georgia
The popular amusement park has resurrected its annual Fright Fest’s Fido-centric Halloween fete for 2017! Costume-clad canines (and our barking buddies who just want to wear their birthday suit) can promenade along a one-mile course in the park, with stops to take sips of water if necessary from water bowls set up at stations and to pose for photos with their families. Next, dogs in disguises can try to win prizes when they gather on one of the back roads behind the park for the Dog Halloween Costume Parade. A paw-ty with a higher purpose, to take part pet parents should donate a five pound bag of dog or cat food, which will be presented to an animal rescue.
Chicago Botanical Garden
When: October 21 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe
Pups in cute costumes will look pretty as a petal as they promenade past the floral finery at the Chicago Botanical Garden (or should that be the Chicago BOOtanical Garden?) during the Spooky Pooch Parade! The annual treat for our tail-wagging chums also includes costume contests with categories such as Best Horticultural Interpretation, Best Puppy in Costume and Best Senior in Costume, and vendor booths brimming with pet-related products.
When: October 22 from noon – 2 p.m.
Where: Charles River Esplanade on Fielder Field in Boston
Raising awareness of park improvements while raising people’s spirits, our barking buddies from the Boston area will stroll a 1/2 mile in spooky style with their Daddy (or Mummy!) by their side…and dogs who don a disguise could win a prize, with awards handed out for Best Costume and Best Duet (person and pet). The afternoon will also include demonstrations, activities, giveaways and gift bags and treats presented to all the participating pups.
