It may not be located somewhere over the rainbow, but the dreams that a band of dog devotees have dared to dream really will come true at Hollywood Forever Cemetery when a memorial marker is unveiled for a tiny Cairn Terrier who followed the Yellow Brick Road straight into the collective heart of fans of both films and Fidos.
Originally laid to rest in the back yard of trainer Carl Spitz in 1945, the development of the Ventura highway destroyed the pup’s plot. The sprit of Toto lives on, however, both in her many movie appearances and in the memory of every child who has ever watched with wonder as Toto faithfully followed Dorothy’s ruby slippers all the way to the Emerald City.
Dogged determination on the part of J.P. Myers, author Steve Goldstein and the followers of the Toto Canine Movie Star Memorial Marker Facebook page has finally paid off, and a permanent place to pay respects to Toto, featuring a full-size bronze sculpture (created by Roman Gal) which stands on a granite base, will make its debut during a dedication ceremony at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on June 18, 2011. Free to the public, pet parents and their well-behaved barking buddies can pay homage to the little dog whose soul has flown over the rainbow to Rainbow Bridge.
When: June 18, 2011 from 11 a.m – 1 p.m.
Where: Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, California
