Make Dogs Your Life Review, Lesson 8

Share with fellow dog lovers!

It has been two weeks since my last review of the Make Dogs Your Life course for dog trainers. The past week I was (1) neck deep in income taxes and (2) doing the Lesson 8 materials twice to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

Besides reminding me, once again, that I was SO glad I was taking this class online, where I could work around my crazy and often unpredictable self-employment schedule, I also realized two more aspects of the Make Dogs Your Life course that I really love.

Monthly Group Phone Calls. Fernando Camacho plans monthly group calls for students and former students, a time to talk with the whole group about challenges you might be facing with a dog. I hadn’t had the chance to sit in on the monthly call the first month of my course (this goes back to that crazy schedule again) but this time I’m happy to say I did. For almost an hour, I talked with Fernando Camacho and other students; he answered questions and also told us about clients he is working with, providing real life examples for both common and unusual training challenges. Camacho also discussed practical business matters for new trainers such as insurance. All students have access to these calls, and I think, especially as trainers get out and start their businesses, the calls will be invaluable.

Ability to Reference Previous Lessons. During the call, Camacho mentioned that, at any time, students will be able to return to the lesson materials and videos for tips.

Although I hadn’t yet moved on to Lesson 9, I took advantage of this option to go back and watch the videos again this past week with Lesson 8. Because this lesson covers working with different breeds and working with shelter dogs, it was especially important to me. We have many readers who are associated with shelters and rescues–and, of course, we’re always advocating shelter adoption–so this lesson was particularly useful to us. Although I’ve now watched the video twice, I know I’ll return to it again in the future as more questions arise.
