Rescued Puppy Mill Dog Stars in Bullets Over Broadway

Share with fellow dog lovers!

BroadwayOnce hidden away in an illegal South Carolina puppy mill, today Trixie the Pomeranian laps up the limelight as Mr. Woofles, starring alongside Zach Braff, Vincent Pastore and Karen Ziemba in Broadway’s new musical adaptation of Woody Allen’s comedic film, Bullets Over Broadway, The Wall Street Journal reports.

After Trixie was saved from her former life as a breeding dog, she landed a plum role as a new member of Tony Award-winning animal trainer Bill Berloni’s fur family. Berloni has saved the lives of shelter and rescue dogs from more than 35 years by offering them new leases on life as actors in movies, TV, off-Broadway and on the Broadway stage. (Fans of Broadway musicals and our barking buddies may remember that Sunny– the terrier mix who starred as Sandy in the most recent rendition of Annie— was saved from death row at a Houston shelter by Berloni.)

Berloni adopted 2 1/2-year-old Trixie in August 2013 from Pet Rescue NY, an all-volunteer organization which rescues dogs and cats who are facing their fates in shelters, living on the streets or relinquished by their guardians.
