Reed
Twilight star Nikki Reed has helped efforts to create the dawn of a new day for dogs and cats in laboratories.

Alongside members of Beagle Freedom Project, the actress appeared at the State Capitol of Sacramento, California to state a case for Assembly Bill 147 (The Beagle Freedom Bill), which would allow companion animals in labs the chance to live out the rest of their lives in a loving, forever home when testing has come to an end.

Representing all of her four-legged friends who dream of life outside laboratory walls, Emma– a Beagle who was once known only by the number tattooed on her ear during her days at a San Francisco testing facility– was one of the former lab dogs in attendance whose tails wagged with happiness when Assembly Bill 147 was passed in an 11 – 1 vote by the Higher Education Committee. Still not a law, the bill will next be heard by the Appropriations Committee.

Nikki Reed is one of several animal-loving luminaries who have used their star wattage to shine a spotlight on the plight of dogs in labs. Castle star Seamus Dever raised funds for the paws cause when he took part in a celebrity edition of a TV game show in 2014, and in 2013 Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Stand By Me) and Baywatch star Alexandra Paul helped 10 Beagles who had spent their lives in a lab take their first steps in the sunlight.
