DogTipper Review: As our regular readers know, we’ve been trying to trim off a little winter weight from both Tiki and Irie. We’ve been paying special attention to the food and treats–and the quantities of each–as we help both dogs reach their target weight.

So we jumped at the chance to review the Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Treats for dogs. These treats are low calorie (just 8 calories each) and low fat. They’re made from just a few ingredients. For example, the duck treats are made from duck liver, sweet potato, cod, duck, cane sugar, glycerin, salt, potassium sorbate, and mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E).

As equally interesting as what’s in the treats is what’s NOT in the treats. You’ll find no wheat, soybean, lecithin, BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin, artificial flavor, glutens, or grains in these treats.

One of the most interesting aspects of these treats are their many layers. Each treat has five layers. The top, middle, and bottom layers are codfish. The thick inner layers are the mixture of the meat and sweet potato. It’s easy to see the layers on the treats:

The codfish layer supplies a whole list of goodies to these treats: Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Omega 3, and Omega 6. It all adds up to a treat that provides antioxidants, lots of vitamins…and a great taste for your dogs. Both Tiki and Irie absolutely loved the treats; we loved that we could give them three or four without blowing their diets!

The only slightly negative we found was that the treats are manufactured in China, always a concern for us. However, each package contains this statement:

These treats are made under the direct supervision of our pet nutritionist in a licensed, certified plant that only manufactures food grade products.

With that supervision and the very simple ingredients list, we feel good about giving the Healthy Omega Treats a big paws up!

Omega Treats come in four varieties: chicken, salmon, tuna, and duck. They are sold in two sizes and retail for $4.59-$9.99, depending on size.

Disclosure: Pet Botanics provided us with four complimentary packages of treats for review. We were not paid for our review and all statements are our own.
