Merrick Dog Treats: How to #TreatRight

Share with fellow dog lovers!

As you know, Irie has been on very limited activity for the past eight weeks due to her ACL surgery. She’s now able to walk on leash (slowly) as much as she’d like but she’s not able to run and play as she loves to do.

To keep her from getting bored, we’ve played games and kept her busy whenever possible. It remains difficult for her to sit easily (she rests on her good leg and still won’t do a square sit) so some of our usual training games have been out. We’ve played hide and seek and done some nose work around the house to keep her entertained. For that, we’ve relied on treats!

We love the new lineup of Merrick all-natural dog treats:

  • irie-cowboy-hat-smile2biscuits: The Merrick Kitchen Bites line of oven-baked biscuits are made with deboned meat as the first ingredient and are available in six flavors: Wingaling (two flavors), Turducken, Brauts N Tots, Cowboy Cookout and Grammy’s Pot Pie.
  • soft and chewy training treats: The Merrick Power Bites line of soft and chewy treats also uses deboned meat. These treats are available in five recipes and are one of the only soft and chewy treats made without use of artificial preservatives. We love the small size of these training treats; they’ve been perfect for giving Irie to encourage her to walk right along beside me at a snail’s pace as she recovers.
  • dental chews: The Merrick Dental Chews (free of grain and gluten) are designed to clean your dog’s teeth and freshen his breath using all-natural ingredients. The Dental Chews are available in three sizes; along with the brush bones, Merrick also offers Flossies and Texas Toothpicks.  All Irie and Tiki know is that these are tasty chews!
  • dog cookies: The new Merrick Jerky Chip Treats are oven-baked all-natural dog cookie treats created using protein-packed jerky chips. They’re easy to break apart so you can treat your dog more often, and are available in four flavors: chicken, beef, lamb and salmon.

irie-cowboy-cookout-tongueAll these goodies are grain-free and gluten-free so we feel good about giving them to, as Merrick likes to say, The Best Dog Ever! Since we’re all sure we’ve got the Best Dog Ever, we want to treat our dogs right and that means serving:

  • Made in the USA treats, with no ingredients from China.
  • Treats made from real meat, fresh fruit and veggies.
  • Grain-free and gluten-free treats.
  • Treats with no corn, no soy, no wheat and no cheap fillers.
  • Treats made with no artificial ingredients, no artificial colors or artificial preservatives.

Along with treats to train and reward Irie and Tiki, we do everything we can to keep their teeth clean and healthy. We love giving our dogs dental chews to satisfy their chewing needs AND to clean their teeth:

Merrick Dental Chews come in three shapes to provide variety. Unlike most dental treats, these are all-natural, grain-free, and gluten-free chews. Using fresh ingredients like alfalfa and parsley to freshen their breath, the bumps and ridges on the chews work to help combat tartar and plaque–all while satisfying that need to chew!

Along with the Dental Chews, Irie and Tiki have really given the treats, cookies, and biscuits a big paws up. I can’t wait to include flavors like Turducken (with its turkey-shaped treats)…
