Fido’s Frozen Fruit Pupsicle Recipe

pupsicles-final

With Memorial Day just around the corner here in the US, I thought today’s treat might be something to mark the unofficial start of summer. Summer means icy treats to cool down…and that includes our dogs!

Today’s treat is super simple and inexpensive to make using fruits you have on hand and, preferably, ones that are in season in your area. NOTE: You can use any fruits you like but do NOT use grapes (or raisins) as they cause health problems in many dogs. Also, dogs do not like citrus fruits and they can cause a laxative effect…so skip those.

Ingredients

4 cups water
1 tablespoon molasses dissolved in the water (optional)
1 cup fresh fruit, chopped

For the fruit, I used a couple of strawberries, a handful of blueberries, and some local peaches which are in season here right now. (Always discard peach pits; they’re toxic to dogs if they chew on them as are some other fruit pits such as apricots and plums. If you use apples, discard the seeds for the same reason.)

You can freeze the mix in ice cube trays; I used six plastic tubs I had stored away. Fill each with about an inch of the water/molasses mixture then drop in some of the fruit. Pop it all in the freezer.

That’s it! You’ve got a cool treat for your dog. Let the summer fun begin!

These look great! No one told my labs that they aren’t suppose to like citrus.
They both love oranges! If my husband gets an orange he better have one for them or they take his. LOL
