117*365: Using My Camera’s Flip Out Monitor

My camera, the Nikon D5000, has a feature that I haven’t really used much but I decided to experiment with this afternoon. The Vari-Angle Monitor flips out so you can take photos with the camera completely at ground level but still see the monitor:

I’d read that something like 80 percent of the people that buy the camera purchase it because of that flip-out monitor…so I decided I’d better get busy and learn to use it!
I had a slightly difficult time focusing on Tiki’s eyes using the drop-down monitor but I think the payoff was the Tiki wasn’t distracted by me staring through the camera! I think this will be a very nice feature to use when photographing Irie (who often gets up and leaves when she sees me looking at her through the camera.)
Of course, after a little while, Tiki had enough of posing, too!
