During the NKLA Adoption Weekend at L.A.’s La Brea Tar Pits a line up of animal-loving luminaries used their star wattage to shine a spotlight on adorable adoptables, with one fortunate four-legger landing the real life role of a canine companion to actress Emmy Rossum.

Known as Sheila during her days at the Baldwin Park Shelter, the tiny Lhasa Apso mix now has a new name (Pepper) and two new siblings to play with– the Shameless star’s rescue dogs Sugar (a Chihuahua) and Cinnamon (a Yorkshire Terrier.)

“The work that Best Friends Animal Society and the NKLA coalition are doing to make Los Angeles a no-kill city is very important to me, not just because I love animals, but also because I live here,” The Phantom of the Opera star stated. “Thousands of wonderful dogs and cats are dying in our nation’s shelters every day simply because they don’t have homes. I encourage everyone to adopt their next pet and to spay or neuter their pets. If we work together, we will save them all.”

During her day at the NKLA adoption event Emmy Rossum also made fast friends with Skye, an adoptable dog from Angel City Pit Bulls:

A Best Friends Animal Society celebrity supporter, Emmy Rossum was just one of the many famous fans of Fidos and felines who promoted the option of adoption by stepping up on stage with shelter/rescue its and dining a bell in celebration with every dog and cat adoption. Other stars who helped the paws cause included Academy Award winner Linda Hunt (currently seen on the CBS series NCIS: Los Angeles); Under the Dome star Rachelle Lefevre; Tricia Helfer of Battlestar Galactica fame; Michael Lomenda from the silver screen adaptation of Jersey Boys; Melissa Ordway from the CBS daytime drama The Young & The Restless; former Nashville Star contestant Justin Gaston; Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello; Bonnie-Jill Laflin (the first female scout in the National Basketball Association); Rescue Me cast member Jack McGee and celebrity dog Tuna of @TunaMeltsMyHeart.
