Are You Ready for National Fetch Day?

Share with fellow dog lovers!

Gretchen Wieners may not have been able to make fetch happen in the classic cult comedy Mean Girls, but just watch as determined dogs from coast to coast turn the phrase into their own pet holiday: National Fetch Day!

Celebrating the loving bond we have with our buddies who bark while promoting the importance of our dogs’ physical fitness, the third Saturday in October has been dubbed National Fetch Day!

National Fetch Day

History of National Fetch Day

Created by Petmate to mark the 20th anniversary of Chuckit! (launchers that provide drool-free pick ups for games of fetch with Fido), the pet holiday encourages pet parents to enjoy a little one-on-one time outdoors with their dog.

If you mark National Fetch Day with your dog, share your fetch photos on social media, using the hashtags #MakeFetchHappen and #NationalFetchDay.

2 Great Reasons to Play Fetch with Your Dog

1. Play Can Prevent Your Pup from Packing on Pounds

An estimated half of all dogs in the United States are overweight, but a fun form of exercise like Fetch can easily help in your quest to keep your canine companion from sporting a fuller frame.

This is especially true during the holiday season, when colder weather and a hectic holiday schedule makes activities like long walks less likely.

2. Exercise Enhances Education

Not only does a game of fetch improve your pup’s physical health, play time can also be used as an opportunity to train and teach good behavior skills to your tail-wagging chum.
