Astra Awards Stars Meet Adoptables

Share with fellow dog lovers!

Celebrities “put on the dog” recently for Hollywood Creative Alliance’s seventh annual Astra Awardsl in Los Angeles, and a smattering of dog and cat hair only added to the glamor of the actors’ designer attire as they used their star wattage at the event to shine a spotlight on pet adoption.

While not every thespian in attendance won an award, many happily helped adoptables in their quest to win a coveted role as a fur baby in a loving forever home:

Fantasia Barrino —  The Color Purple star is a new pet parent to a pup named Lola.

Garcelle Beauvais — The actress, cast member of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and new pet parent to a Goldendoodle dubbed Kobe was among the stars at the 5th Annual Vanderpump Dog Foundation gala in 2023 who helped to raise funds to further the foundation’s lifesaving efforts.

Kristin Chenoweth — The entertainment icon has helped many paws causes!

Chase Crawford —  “The Boys” star is a pet parent to a dog named Shiner.

Willam Dafoe — The acting icon is a proud pet parent to a pack of five dogs, among them three rescues!  Dafoe recently revealed to The Guardian that he lives on a farm with many animals, saying “I’m basically a vegetarian, so I just do it for the pleasure of their company and to try to give them a good life…”

Abby Ryder Fortson — When the star of Are You There. God?  It’s Me, Margaret heads home after a day on a movie set she is greeted by a Labrador Retriever mix named Thomas, who was adopted by her family from the Mae Day Los Angeles Dog Rescue.

Greta Gerwig — Gerwig, who created movie magic with the blockbuster hit Barbie, is a pet parent to a mini Bernedoodle dubbed Wizard.

Glenn Howerton — The Blackberry star is a doting dog Dad to two rescue pooches.

Ken Marino — The director of the 2018 romcom Dog Days.

Violet McGraw — The child star of the horror flick “M3gan”, who has a rescue dog named Rudy, starred alongside her pup and her sister (actress Madeleine McGraw) in a PETA Kids campaign that helped to shine a spotlight on the plight of homeless dogs,

Josh Peck —  The actor, who stars in the acclaimed movie Oppenheimer, once acted with five French Mastiffs who portrayed a canine cop in the TV series “Turner & Hooch.”

Jeri Ryan —  The “Star Trek: Picard” cast member is a pet parent to a black rescue cat named Oliver and rescues Lucy (a Saint Bernard mix) and Lulu (a Boxer.)

Martin Starr — The “Party Down” star is a proud pet parent to Pit Bulls Albert and Betty (who he found through Karma Rescue and Stand Up for Pits Foundation.)

Hailee Steinfeld —  The “Spider-man: Across The Spider-verse” star is a pet parent two two Yorkshire Terriers named Brando and Martini.

Jeffrey Wright

Weird Al Yankovic — The iconic comedic crooner was once a pet parent to a rescue Poodle named Sandy.

The Astra Awards, which teamed up with Petco Love (formerly known as The Petco Foundation), included adoptables from Wallis Annenberg PetSpace
