7*365: Take a LOT of Photos

Share with fellow dog lovers!

When John and I first started taking photographs to sell with our travel articles and guidebooks, we shot 35mm slide film. We ordered the film in bulk with mailers then, when the trip was done, we shipped the film for processing. We waited for the slides to return then, one by one, we sorted through the batches and tossed some and filed others. In retrospect, it was a slow, slow process and an expensive one.

Because of the expense and the time involved, we were somewhat picky with our shooting. We’d doublecheck each image before pressing that shutter because (a) we didn’t want to waste the shot and (b) we were often on assignment in locations where, if we ran out of film, it was difficult to buy and, if we got lucky enough to find some still short of its expiration date, it was super expensive.

Now, of course, thanks to digital cameras, it’s a whole new ballgame. You can shoot as many photos as you like without that per photo cost hanging over your head. Some will be good, some will be bad, and some will be just fun, like this photo of Tiki shot in our front yard. It’s not a great photo but it’s one we’ll treasure (and one we would have had a tough time shooting if we’d gone out to specifically get a shot of her in this position!) And that’s the best part of dog photography: you’re having fun with your dog and capturing precious moments at the same time.

So shoot those photos and do the sorting when you get back to the computer. It’s quick and easy to delete unwanted photos but, by shooting a lot of photos, you can catch your dog in mid-action…like this shot of Tiki’s giraffe impersonation.

Have you taken a photo of your dog that caught them in a special moment…all just because you were taking a lot of photos? If so, please leave us a comment below (and attach your photo using the “+” button below the comment field to share the fun of your dog’s photo!)

And if you’ve missed any of the 365 Photo Project series, you’ll find it here.
