The Big Reveal: Our HomeGoods Decorating Project

Share with fellow dog lovers!

It’s time for the big reveal!! As we’ve been telling you, we’ve been taking the HomeGoods Pet Blogger Challenge and working to design a room that we think Ryan Reynolds’ dog Baxter would like using items from HomeGoods.

This has been such a fun project. Honestly, I wasn’t sure which direction to take this when we first learned of the Challenge. We had a list of celebrities and their pets from which to choose; we chose Baxter because (1) he’s a large dog like our Tiki and Irie and (2) he’s a rescue dog from Texas, just like our Tiki and Irie!

So we headed off to our local HomeGoods store. Actually we’re lucky to have two HomeGoods stores in our area. We found a great selection of pet items–from dog beds to protective safety harnesses for the car, from bowls to toys–in the HG Pets section.

We went on three different shopping excursions to create the room that we thought would be best for Baxter. We also wanted to buy with a theme in mind so we selected a green theme…after all, Ryan Reynolds was the star of Green Lantern!

We started with sheer green curtains and a decorative curtain rod from HomeGoods. It’s sheer enough that a dog can see out of it to watch his turf:

Next, we moved on to the bed with this new king-sized quilt, in green, of course:

I love that it’s casual and comfortable, a great weight for summer (and light enough that it will be easy to wash, unlike a heavy comforter. Even if Baxter is the son of a celebrity, we all know that muddy paws will soil any spread!) Best of all, we loved that this quilt was a real steal at just $50!

Of course, those Hollywood nights can get a little cool, even in the summer months, so every dog needs a comfy throw, and this one was complete with a paw print motif:

At under $13, this throw is super plush (and who can resist a paw print?!)

Moving on to the other side of the room, we added both a colorful indoor-outdoor rug and a large dog bed. HomeGoods pet section had a huge selection of pet beds of every size and shape so it was tough selecting which one we wanted but we couldn’t resist this super soft Beautyrest bed:

That moves us over to one of our favorite purchases: a teak table with two drawers. It’s so wonderful for pet parents to have all their goodies in one easy to access place and this table does exactly that. Two drawers provide closed storage for medications while the top gets items like treats out of your dog’s reach.  We bought some great grooming products as well at HomeGoods (hey, Baxter’s dad is a movie star so he has to stay red carpet-ready!) The bottom shelf puts items within a large dog’s reach, from bowls to toys:

We loved that HomeGoods has a BIG selection of dog toys in all sizes; many are very well-known brands. Of course, we continued our green theme even through the toys and a bowl for Baxter!

And, since Baxter is a dog on the go, often seen on location with his famous father, we bought some travel goodies for him as well, a seat belt harness to ensure a safe ride and a roll-up bed that can be used in the car and then easily carried into a hotel room for a bed on the go:

Finally, we framed some portraits of two dogs we thought that Baxter would like, his fellow rescue dogs Tiki and Irie (their portraits were done by Art and Dog Design); HomeGoods has a big selection of frames.

We had a great time selecting items for this super fun project. Thank you to HomeGoods; we’re so glad to now know about the huge selection of high-quality (and budget-friendly) pet items available at HomeGoods stores!
