Get Your Licks on Route 66 Kicks Off 2026 Tour

For nearly two decades, animal lovers are in seventh heaven knowing that adoptable dogs cats along the Mother Road will find forever mothers and fathers to love thanks to FIDO Friendly magazine’s annual Get Your Licks on Route 66 pet adoption tour!

Along with helping to unite pups and our pals who purr with forever pet parents, the tour also helps to raise funds for that day’s participating shelter with the FIDO Friendly giant spinning wheel. For a donation, visitors can spin to win pet-themed prizes from the event’s sponsors, with all of the proceeds from the game going to that tour stop’s shelter.

The wheels of FIDO Friendly‘s Get Your Licks on Route 66 tour bus will go round and round beginning September 5th.

Every dog and cat adopted on the Get Your Licks on Route 66 pet adoption tour will add to the more than 21,000 companion animals who are already traveling down the road of life together with a forever family thanks to FIDO Friendly‘s annual pet adoption event!

Our Visit to the Get Your Licks on Route 66 Tour!

A few years ago the tour made a stop in Austin, Texas–so we had the chance to stop by with our dogs Tiki and Barli!

As you know, for the past several years we’ve written the “Bowser on a Budget” column for FIDO Friendly so it was extra fun to welcome publisher Susan Sims to our hometown; we hadn’t had the chance to see her in person since a trip to Alabama years ago:

Although he’s traveled a lot with us and made half a dozen hotel stays, this was Barli’s first big dog event, and I was so proud of him. He proved himself to be quite the party animal…and hit the doggie pool right away…

Barli and Tiki got some great goodies from the tour sponsors.
