Remembering Peanut & Daisy

In a recent post, I wrote about my childhood dogs but I wanted to share more about one in particular: Peanut. Like so many childhood dogs, Peanut taught me about everything from love to loss. In between, he also taught me about friendship–thanks to his most unlikely bond with our pet duck–and perseverance, after a back injury left him partially paralyzed. That perseverance I learned from him paid off years later as I started a career in freelance writing and made my first really big magazine sale (way back in 1985) to Reader’s Digest with this memoir article about our very special dog. On Memorial Day, it seems fitting to remember my little buddy with this article:
