The New Orleans Saints may not be playing in the Big Game this year, but the team’s tight end is taking part in an event that is a real game changer for homeless dogs…Greater Good Charities’ annual Shelter Bowl! The proud pet parents of Fitzgerald, who was adopted from a Mississippi shelter, Juwan Johnson and his wife Chanen helped to kick off the event, which runs through February 11th.

Juwan and Chanen Johnson, together with their shelter pet Fitzgerald, team up with Hill's Pet Nutrition to help end pet homelessness.

During Shelter Bowl Hill’s Pet Nutrition will donate millions of meals to animal shelters and rescue organizations from coast to coast, and Hill’s and other partners will match each donation made during Shelter Bowl dollar for dollar, up to $60,000.

“We cannot imagine our family without Fitzgerald,” said Juwan and Chanen Johnson. “Adopting a shelter pet changed our lives and is one of the many reasons we are proud to work with Hill’s Pet Nutrition to help more shelter pets find loving homes during this year’s Shelter Bowl event. By sharing our pet adoption story, we hope to inspire others to support their local shelters and help these deserving pets find a new leash on life.”

Caroline Chulick, Senior Vice President of US Marketing at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, stated:  “We are proud to have advocates like Juwan and Chanen Johnson lend their support to the campaign as we work together to help end pet homelessness.”

Along with Shelter Bowl, Hill’s Pet Nutrition also partners with over 1,000 animal shelters in the U.S. to provide more than $300 million worth of meals, and have helped over 14 million companion animals find forever homes through the Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love program, which was launched in 2002.

How You Can Help

Dog devotees and fans of felines who would like to contribute to Shelter Bowl can:

Make a Donation:  Donating during the Shelter Bowl will help to provide funds for animal welfare organizations and increase your monetary contribution’s impact through the campaign’s matching donation.

Foster:  By opening your home to  a companion animal in need for a short period of time can help to alleviate a dog or cat’s shelter stress, help shelter staff learn more about a dog or cat’s true personality away from the shelter, and free up a much-needed kennel space for another homeless animal.

Adopt:  An estimated 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats find themselves in the US shelter system each year.   Choosing to adopt rather than turn to a breeder can help to save the life of the animal you welcome into your heart and home, and open up space  at the shelter for another animal in need.

Volunteer:  Donate your time by walking adoptable dogs, taking photos of adoptables to share on social media, etc.
