When you take into account price, preparation time, and popularity factor, I think I might have just stumbled up on the best frozen treat ever.
You’ll remember last week I prepared Doggie Chopped Liver using chicken liver. When I boiled the chicken livers, I reserved the broth, froze it in plastic cups and, voila, it became Chicken Liver Sicles!
Tiki, who is usually not a big fan of frozen treats, gave it four paws up! (It was so good she could not just enjoy it on the porch, where it could have stayed free of leaves, but instead ran into the woods so she was in no danger of having to share her “ice cream” with Irie…)
- 1 pound chicken livers
- 1 quart water
- Bring chicken livers to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 40 minutes. Remove chicken livers from broth for use in another recipe such as Doggie Chicken Liver.
- Refrigerate broth; when chilled, skim off all fat and discard.
- Pour broth into plastic containers and freeze until solid.
