With more than 3,500 restaurants in 46 states, SONIC has been tempting diners since 1953. Whether you’re headed for a burger or burrito, shake or slush, you may be wondering if dogs are allowed at SONIC. The answer: yes, but with a few exceptions.
Can I bring my dog to SONIC?
You are welcome to bring your dog to any of the SONIC drive-in restaurants to dine with you in the car.
“Guests have been bringing furry friends along on their drive-in visits for decades,” says Kim Lewis, Vice President of Integrated Marketing for SONIC.
If you want to get out of your car, that’s where it gets a little more complicated.
If your local SONIC has an outdoor eating area like ours does, you will probably be allowed to dine there with your dog; just ask first. (The patio dining at our Sonic is dog-friendly…but that can vary with local ordinances.)
And while SONIC is known for its drive-in service, there are a few locations that have actual sit-down restaurants. Your dog would not be permitted inside the restaurant due to health regulations unless your dog is a service dog.
Does Sonic have a dog menu?
Sonic has just added a new Wag Cup. It’s a small cup of whipped topping (similar to a Starbucks Puppuccino). It’s FREE with a purchase of another item on the Sonic app. Currently the free Wag cup offer is valid through October 2022.
Another dog favorite is a Plain SONIC® Cheeseburger; you can order online and leave off everything except the meat!

Sonic Launches Sonic Swag Shop for Dogs
SONIC® Drive-In has launched a special, limited-time collection of SONIC-inspired merchandise for dogs and their two-legged companions on SonicSwagShop.com. The SONIC® Wag Shop collection includes plush versions of SONIC fan-favorites including the iconic Corn Dogs, Tots and Limeades, as well as SONIC-inspired costumes, bandanas and more.
“The new Wag Shop collection lets fans show off their love of SONIC and their pets, and trips to SONIC are even sweeter when you can reward your pups with a special Wag Cup treat,” said Lewis.
For every Wag Shop merchandise purchase, 100% of proceeds will be donated to provide much-needed supplies and learning resources to public schools across the communities SONIC serves.
