My Visit to Dog-Friendly Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas

Even if you’re not an HGTV lover like I am, you’re no doubt familiar with Chip and Joanna Gaines of “Fixer Upper.” From the show to a bestselling book to an upcoming magazine, the couple has launched a Texas-sized career that features their own paint line, rugs, furniture, and more. And, just over a year ago, the stars of the popular show transformed downtown Waco with their Magnolia Market at the Silos, located in the former cottonseed mill. Today the formerly abandoned facilities house a bustling shopping area–and one that’s dog-friendly, too!

On Thursday, my mom and I made our first trip to Magnolia Market. Irie and Tiki didn’t want to brave the Christmas crowds so they stayed home with John while Mom and I enjoyed a beautifully sunny day:

As you might expect right before Christmas, Magnolia was packed with shoppers (although the store draws huge crowds any time of year). You’ll find $10 paid parking lots run by local churches just down the street or you might get lucky and find a free parking spot on the streets. There’s also a free trolley system that serves the area.

The distinctive silos are the most recognizable part of the complex. Don’t forget to stop by the #milestomagnolia area at the silos to snap your Instagram photo:

The centerpiece of the complex is the store, housed in the former grain barn, and, yes, dogs are welcome inside the store, too:

The store is filled with home goods and more, and you’ll find many that hark back to the site’s historic roots:

Outside, the store opens to a huge lawn area with lawn games and family fun:

The artificial turf lawn is one area in which dogs aren’t permitted, although they can watch the activity from the nearby food court area:

The lawn area is surrounded by food trucks that offer everything from Texas barbecue to gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches:

At the far side of the food court lies the gardening store, which sells everything from seeds to garden supplies to garden decor:

The store is surrounded by raised bed gardens and plenty of wide sidewalks for dog walking:

Before you leave, don’t forget to visit the Silos Baking Co. for a sweet treat (don’t miss the Shiplap Cupcake with vanilla buttercream icing!)

The bakery also includes its own outdoor dining area:
