What Breed is My “Brother”?

Share with fellow dog lovers!

**Congratulations to Prima Donna, winner of the Barkonomics giveaway!**

As you know, our dogs are very mixed breed dogs. We had the chance to have them DNA tested a while back and the results were surprising, both for Irie and for Tiki. It has been so much fun telling people what combination of breeds make up our dogs’ heritage.

So when we had the chance to test another dog’s DNA, we jumped at it. Paris’ parents have a dog, Sam, who they found as a stray seven years ago. We’ve always wondered just what breeds make up Sam’s background…and now we know, thanks to the PetSafe Breed Identification DNA Kit!

The test was very easy to conduct. Paris’ dad swabbed out Sam’s mouth with two extra-long swabs then packaged them in the mailer that came with the kit:

After dropping it in the mail, the results came back in about two weeks! The kit (which is sold at PETCO stores) presently identifies 62 different dog breeds, and the list is growing.

Next week we’ll be giving you a full rundown of Sam’s DNA results but first we want to ask you:

What breed(s) is Sam?

Here are a few clues:

  • Sam weighs over 70 pounds.
  • He has a very thick double coat.
  • His tongue is partially blackish (but not completely).
  • He is very protective.
  • He has a very thick, somewhat short tail.

Just leave your guesses below! (You can use the Facebook comments section or the regular WordPress comments box…your choice!)

Giveaway!

Since Sam’s photo appears in our Barkonomics: Tips for Frugal Fidos book, we’re going to give away one book to one winner selected at random on Monday, March 28, 2011. (If you’ve already got a copy of our book, we’ll substitute a t-shirt!)

This giveaway is open to everyone and enter as often as you like!

Disclosure: We received a complimentary PetSafe Breed Identification DNA Kit to review. We were not paid for our review and all statements are strictly our own.
